Chinese New Year class decoration

Hey guys! I'm going to tell you what happened when we decorated the class. In case you are wondering, I'm the class secretary, so I'm in charge of class decoration(even though I have no artistic talent of sorts) and to put it simply, the job is horrible. There's lots of organising, directing and stuff that makes your brain exhausted. Anyway, I decided to decorate the class on last Friday since Friday is my only free day in my hectic schedule. But the real mistake I made, was that I forgot to tell everyone about it, and that was a really serious blunder. Only when the day  itself arrived, did I suddenly remember. I rushed to the front of the class in the morning and yelled for silence before asking them:'' Who's free today?''
Everyone looked at me, shaking their heads , saying they have CCA and other stuff on. Just my luck that my only free day was the day where there were the most CCAs on in the afternoon. In the end, there were only 5 people who could take time off to help out with the decorations. All I could do was groan and accept it resignedly. After all, it was my fault. But on the bright side, at least 5 people helping me were better than none at all! So the day went on, with me trusting that those 5 people would turn up to help. Then in the afternoon, as we gathered in the class to decorate it, I looked around and asked,''Where's Bryan?'' just as my phone vibrated violently. I frowned, and looked at the message before breaking out into a yell of rage. '' Sorry. Not free. Bye bye.'' the words stared back at me. I looked around and gritted my teeth, suppressing my rage. We could still do this! And so we started work. We cut extraordinary amounts of tape, and put up dozens of decorations in the form of red packets, and tried our best to create an awesome decoration, one befitting of the title, ''best decorated class of 2011''. At least, we tried to.
   Then disaster struck.
Our main worker, Shinichi, said that he had to go for his CCA. I struggled for words but in the end could only watch helplessly as Shinichi shrugged and walk out of the room. Then, two out of the three workers said they wanted to have their lunch. Grinning, they walked out of the room , laughing at my predicament. Finally, about 15 minutes later, the last worker said he had to go as he wanted to eat McDonalds now. I bitterly complained and pleaded for him to stay but he said he didn't care and walked out of the room just like the others. I was now alone. Without help. Without friends. How sad I felt! I had been abandoned, left to do the job alone. I continued doing the job alone for a while, before giving up and heaving a sigh of frustration. '' I DON'T CARE I'M LEAVING!'' I yelled to the walls of the classroom. Grabbing my bag, I stormed off in a huff. If the teacher blamed me, I would say that there was a lack of manpower.
And so now, on this Monday, we finally did the decorations together as a class(after me complaining) and although I think it won't win any prizes, at least, we did it together, as one. I learnt quite a lot from this experience. The main thing that I learnt is to remember to tell everyone when to meet and discuss which day is suitable for all of us. Another thing is that doing a job alone is definitely worse than doing it together as a team with the whole class helping you. So, here's an early happy Chinese New Year to all of you readers! Bye!

A moment spent alone doing something I enjoyed: Computer gaming!

Hi guys! It's the start of the week again! For me, my week started with a moment (well not exactly a moment maybe a few minutes or hours) spent alone doing something I enjoyed. In fact, it's what every young kid enjoys. Playing computer games! After spending the entire afternoon killing my braincells over math, I took time out to relax myself and just forget about homework for a while. It felt awesome! Anyway, after going into the game, which was Battle-field 2, thunderous music blasted through the speakers and I think I vaguely heard my mum telling me to lower the volume but I was too engrossed with the game to heed her advice. I clicked on one of the servers and entered it , transporting myself into the virtual world of gaming. One thing I like about Battlefield 2 is that it manages to totally transport you into the gaming world and make you engrossed in it. Hey I know that's bad but once in a while I think it is ok for me!
So anyway, back to the gaming experience. There I was, standing on the open road, yelling instructions to people and holding my cool, shiny machine gun. After that you know what happened??

Yes, you guessed right! I died. Talk about epic fail. One moment I was standing there looking cool and heroic and sort of in charge and the next a sniper got me in the head and I died with blood oozing out my head.
So after clenching my fists and muttering 'unfair' under my breath for a few times, I got into the game again, determined to do much better. I chose my shiny, cool machine gun again but this time I did not stand around shouting orders and stuff. I charged in guns blazing, like those heroes in western movies where they save a damsel-in-distress. The only difference was that there was no damsel-in-distress and I certainly was not some invulnerable hero. So what happened was quite different from those movies. Quite different indeed. There I was, guns firing in every possible direction, bullets spraying everywhere, bodies dropping, looking quite proficient, when I suddenly tripped on an explosive.
''BOOM!'' went the explosive and ''FLY'' went my body. It got tossed about like a rag doll and landed on some distant building, bones cracked and blood oozing out of my head again.
I gritted my teeth and tried again. This time, I picked a sniper rifle. Normally, I'd consider it as a ''coward's'' choice but I greatly needed some morale boosting so I picked a sniper rifle and it really boosted my morale by a thousand-fold. The sound of my sniper rifle cracking was like the death-bell ringing for the victim. So, one by one each enemy dropped, lying on the floor, groaning ,blood oozing out of THEIR heads this time( NOT ME). Sadly, my joy was short-lived.
''Stab!'' went a knife and ''OUCH'' went the virtual me. So, again I died, blood oozing from my head , and gurgling from my mouth. I would have gone on if not for a hand waving in front of me and saying, '' ZACHARY! Time to do work again!''. ''So fast? Another minute please?'' I said, although I already knew the answer to my question. Mum glared at me, placing the clock in front of me and putting her hands akimbo shortly after. I sighed and went away, to continue doing my work but deep down in my heart, I was alive with energy.

That's why I enjoy computer games. They let you reach a world that will never exist in reality and there you can have fun as much as you want. I know this game is a bit gory but any computer game works for me. They never fail to set the adrenaline pumping through my body, and every time I finish the computer game, I'll be always ready to do my work better than before.

Recharged-Back to work!

Something unusual that happened in school

January the 12th was BB day! BB stands for Boy’s Brigade which is my CCA. BB day commemorates the founding of Boy’s Brigade and so I’m going to tell you about what happened on that day.
However, let me first tell you about the few days of intensive training prior to the event. For that few days, our CCA leader kept reminding us over and over again to attend the practices. So, through the sweat ,fatigue and back-breaking(well in this case it was feet-breaking) exercises and drills, we perfected our drill movements and were totally in sync. When the parade commander shouted the command, our ears rang as we turned sharply and swiftly, and march out as if the devil itself was on our heels with the echoes of the command all around us, a mere wisp reminding us of the punishment should we fail to march in step and with speed.

Finally BB day came. We assembled in the parade square our hearts palpitating in excitement and with tiny butterflies fluttering about in our stomachs. “ Right guys! Today is the day! Everyone will be watching you today so be on your best behaviour. Let's do well everyone!" The parade commander said solemnly. Then, an unexpected news came. '' THE ASSEMBLY IS IN THE HALL!''someone shouted. ''WHAT??'' the parade commander said, dumbstruck with his eyes widening slightly, losing all composure. ''GO GO GO!'' he roared and we all rushed down frantically to assemble at the hall.

Then, yet another shock.

The hall was empty!

The guy had tricked us!!

I could literally see steam coming out of the parade commander's head as he ordered us back to the parade square. There were grumbles and moans but we all rushed up urgently, after all, the whole school was assembling already and we were not even ready! Anyway, after all the fuss of getting back in position and getting ready, we stood there, unmoving , as still as statues(ok fine maybe not that still, after all, there were a few surreptitious actions here and there by yours truly). Then came a cacophony of sounds that was the national anthem, followed by the pledge and strangely all went well. I half-expected us to mess up at some point but all went well! The principal came later and spoke to the school about Boy's Brigade and about its awards and good points. The round of applause that tailed closely behind his speech and was dedicated to us warmed my heart and gave me a sense of pride for my own CCA. I felt elated and was greatly encouraged by the applause and I think the rest of the Boy's Brigade felt the same too. Finally, we concluded the ceremony by falling out and stamping in perfect unison.
Clap Clap Clap!
Personally, I feel this Boy's Brigade Day greatly lifted my spirits and morale. The applause at the end symbolised that the school recognised our efforts to make Boy's Brigade a more prominent CCA and bring the school glory for the awards. Also it gave me some experience for upcoming major events. For example speech day is coming up soon and the Boy's Brigade will be participating. Unlike last year where my batch did not have to go, this year I'm already Secondary 2, so I have to participate in this and I think I will do it with confidence due to the uplifting of spirit today. So anyway, this is the end of BB day , and I hope I'll have a great time in BB for the coming year.

I hope I will remain like this for the rest of my BB life

Something that took place in school

Hi guys, I'm going to share with you something that took place in school today. Today, I had Home Economics which is one of the more fun and interesting lessons in school. Yes, I know that Home Economics is supposed to be a ''girl's'' subject , but apparently my school has it to teach us independence. At least, that's what I think and I kind of like it that way. Cooking is very fun and there's that moment of satisfaction when you eat your own cooked food, food that you cooked by yourself and not by anyone else. Yes, it may not taste like heaven but its made by your own hands and that I think is what counts. Anyway, let's get back to the main topic, which is what happened today in Home Economics.

Today as we entered the kitchen decked out in our suave aprons and ocean-blue bandanas, the teacher told us that we would be doing something different from the normal cooking. We would be baking instead of frying or boiling. Now, baking has to be extremely precise and I mean extremely. If you add too much flour, your cup cake will end up as hard as rock. On the other hand, if you add too little flour, it'll turn out all soggy and well, disgusting. I saw quite a few soggy ones today, they looked like melted chocolate with bits of chocolate chip in them. Really mushy and disgusting. So after all these warnings and pin-point accuracy requirements, do you think my class will be nervous and probably think along the lines '' I'm going to mess this up?'' OF COURSE NOT. My class is the type of class who looks for the fun in stuff, graded or not. Anyway, after a small briefing, we got down to work.
First, my partner, Gerrell, and I went to get the various ingredients and materials. Eggs, butter, flour, sugar, spoon and the list goes on and on.
Next, Gerrell laboriously stirred the butter and sugar together to try and attain a cream-like state while I spent my time shaking the sieve, trying to sieve out the flour to get rid of any insects if there were (fortunately there weren't any insects). Over time, I got absolutely bored with my job so Gerrell and I decided to switch jobs. As our mixture of butter and sugar got creamier and creamier, a smell that resembled vanilla ice cream wafted through the air and up our noses. It smelled perfect and I could already imagine myself munching on that awesome cup cake. After a few mouth-watering moments of daydreaming, I got back to reality and continued mixing. So on and on I went, stirring after the flour was added, stirring after vanilla essence was added, stirring after the eggs were added. My arms ached as I stirred on and on, groaning as I forced the wooden-spoon-like-thing (sorry about this but I have no idea what it is called) through the thick slushy mixture. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and handed over the job the Gerrell who did it with an impressive amount of vigour. Well, I suppose that's the advantage of having an NCC Land partner.
Finally, the mixture looked creamy enough and we gently tipped some of it into each paper cup, filling it to be about three-quarters full.We couldn't add more as the mixture would rise and we didn't want the cup cake to ''explode'' which was what happened to a few people. Poor them. We then put the cup cake mixture in the oven with two other friends' cup cakes and waited. Time crept at a snail-like pace and we were all sighing impatiently and tapping our feet by the time it was ready. As we took them out, we breathed a sigh of relief. Our cup cakes were perfect and I really mean perfect. They had a nice round shape and just a few small cracks which are perfectly fine. The other pair's cup cakes however, turned out a little worse. I won't comment on theirs but all I would say was that while in the oven their cup cakes bubbled. Talk about really weird. Anyway, we let the teacher assess our cup cake and surprise surprise! We got full marks!! What's more, it's the first time she gave us a full mark! We were over the moon and grinning madly as we high-fived each other. For our class, we got quite a few full marks too and there were cheers everywhere. Indeed today was a great lesson.
Personally, I feel that today's Home Economics lesson was rather fun and I also learnt a new cooking method: baking! Also, I feel that life is like baking. In order to get a good cup cake, you have to stir it well and hard and get your proportions right. Same thing in life. In life, education is the key to a good future, so you got to study hard and smart, achieve good results and then voila! Your life will shape like a nice and round cup cake. On the other hand, if you do your studies in a slip-shod way, your life will be like the other partner's cup cake. Really messed up due to insufficient mixing or in this case, studying. I hope that in future, my life would be the first and not the latter and I would have a good life ahead!

A special moment I enjoyed with my family.

Hi guys! How's your Saturday so far? I hope it's good. Mine was awesome. For starters, I just had a barbecue! What's more, it's with my family! Before I begin telling you about the barbecue, however, allow me to tell you a bit of my life on Saturdays and that will lead to the matter of the barbecue.
Every Saturday, my family and I would go to my grandmother's house in the evening, where all my aunties and uncles gather there. We would have dinner and chit-chat with one another. It's usually the case where the young people talk among themselves ( the usual sort of thing: gossip, most popular stuff, etc etc.), and the oldies would say stuff like ''Anyone strike 4D tonight?'' or '' Turn the channel! My show starts already, the one on channel 8 called 'Love' ! ''. Yup, that sort of thing. I found out that the oldies are all addicted to that television show, they seem to chatter and prattle on about it all the time.Anyway, life on the normal Saturday would go on like this. Quite mundane and sometimes boring. So it came as a surprise when our grandmother suggested that we have a barbecue to celebrate the new year. The young people were pretty psyched by this idea and were all chorusing in agreement. The oldies were also nodding in agreement, bobbing their heads up and down and so it was settled. A barbecue was to be held.
Thus, the normal mundane and boring Saturday was transformed into a full blown party full of life and fun. What's more, the young people and the oldies  interacted with each other while barbecuing ( though I thought they interacted a little bit too much judging by the state of the chicken wings!).On that evening,  lots of people were there, immediate cousins, their girlfriends and boyfriends, distant cousins that I don't know, grand-aunties that I didn't even know existed. It was really an eye-opener for me - the sheer size of my entire family! Also, the place was fabulously decorated. Colourful bunting hung from the wall with  balloons complimenting them. There was even a cacophony of sounds erupting from my cousin's hand phone to liven up the place much more! With the atmosphere set right and the decorations all done, we started the barbecue. I was appointed the official role of ''food taster'' and what a jolly good time I had! I absolutely loved some of the chicken wings, I loved ripping out the meat and letting my hands get all oily and sticky. Of course, I didn't slack the whole time, I got up a few times to cook a chicken wing or two but that was it. While barbecuing ( or more likely just providing some "eye power") I chatted with my grandmother's maid and by the time we finished, we were covered in sweat from head to toe. Nevertheless, it was a job well done. By her of course, not me.
After that, all the cousins gathered round the table and started chatting enthusiastically, commenting on how one of my cousins polished the food off his fingers and how barbaric it looked. To me, it looked quite ok but I suppose that was how I ate too. Well, you can't blame me, the food was finger licking good! As we were chatting we noticed one of the lesser known distant cousins sitting alone in the living room, looking extremely bored. So we kind of dithered there, wondering if we should invite her to join us. Everyone was apprehensive and was urging each other to approach her. Finally, one of my cousins stood up shaking his head and went in boldly to ask her to join us. Three cheers for him! If he didn't do that, I think we would have dithered on for a longer period of time. Naturally, the first part of the conversation we had with her was pretty awkward but thing smoothed out quickly and soon we were laughing hysterically at each others jokes and stories. Some of the oldies also joined in the fun and told some of their stories too. Not as hilarious as ours but acceptable I suppose. We had a great time talking and I got to know a new cousin! That's one more step to learning the enormous family tree that we have! Soon, however, it was getting quite late and we all departed quite sadly but with rather fond memories of the barbecue.
Indeed, it was a memorable event spent with my family and  I think it'll dwell in my heart for a period of time. I learnt that good times need not only exist with friends, but can also exist within the family! In fact, it should start with the family for they are the people whom we spend a lot of time with! So, let's all not treat families as the usual nagging and boring type but rather like our best friends and let's start having fun with them too!

Hello!(testing)

Hey im zachary and welcome to my blog! I created this for exam purposes though. :p
